James F. Shea, Sr. started Fairmont Homes in 1971. He had been working as a successful attorney in Detroit, Michigan but was intrigued with the possibilities of manufactured housing. He set up a manufacturing plant in an old sauerkraut factory in Nappanee Indiana. Fairmont has since experienced tremendous success, becoming one of the largest single location facilities in the housing industry. They have evolved into a family of companies that produce valuable and diverse housing. In the past 35+ years, Fairmont Homes has built thousands of family homes with the comfort, security and general well being that only a quality-built home can offer. The son of the founder, James Foster Shea, currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board.
