Texas Modular Homes

Modular Homes are not Mobile Homes in Texas. The differences between modular homes and mobile homes is significant and fairly obvious to the trained eye. One of the most obvious differences to the untrained eye is the roof. In modular home construction the pitch of the roof is generally 5/12 or greater. This type of pitch appears to be consistent with that of a stick built home. The eaves of a modular home is also generally 12", although some builders use less. In mobile home construction, the pitch of the roof is generally less than 5/12 and the eaves overhang is less than 12". Modular Home Builders in Texas are well versed in modular technology

Structurally, the differences are greater. Texas Modular homes are built to generally accepted local building code standards, while mobile homes are built to HUD regulations. HUD regulations are less stringent and are generally less inclusive than local building codes.

Mobile homes are constructed on steel structures, in order to facilitate ease of moving. Modular homes are constructed using wooden construction methods designed to be placed on a permanent foundation. Mobile homes can be placed on a permanent foundation, but they are constructed so that they do not have to be. In the event that they are placed on slabs or other temporary foundations, the construction of a mobile home allows it to be relocated.

Cost is also a difference between Texas modular homes and mobile homes. The difference in price varies dramatically, however, some manufacturers will make the same floor plan in both modular and mobile models.

Whether modular or mobile is the right choice for you, it an efficient and expedition means to have a great home that is made in Texas for you!
